Shipmasters’ Association of Montenegro - Kotor was founded on June 20th, 2001, and was enlisted in the register of Non-Governmental Associations at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Montenegro on June 25th, 2001.

Foundation assembly was held on June 20th, 2001 when Executive Board of 13 members was elected as well as the chairmen of the Board. He is the President of the association as well.

Total number of Masters who enrolled is, at this moment, 133.

Any citizen who have passed the examination for Master Mariner may become member of the Association.

The basic tasks of the Association are development and improvement of navigation, supporting and advising of maritime education system and acquiring of deck officers certificates, maintaining of the tradition of Masters , as well as the continuing of the tradition of this region which lasts for centuries and which is, as that, recognizable in the world.

Association's day is St. Nicolas - December 19th.

Slogan of the Association is the old Plutarch's saying:
